I’ve managed to find out a little bit more about the photographer John Everard. He was born on 28th June 1898, in Kingston upon Hull, Yorkshire, and was christened Edward Ralph Forward. His father, originally from Devon, was a solicitor. In 1916, when Edward turned eighteen he enlisted in the Continue Reading
Don’t mess with these ladies!
Rummaging through my collection of Stephen Glass images I came across some pictures of wrestling women. They were unique enough to warrant more than posting a couple of images online. So I duly gathered the best of them together in a hardback volume called Amazons of Yesteryear, that can be Continue Reading
Living Doll (1965)
Harrison Marks first announced that his glamour films were in production in Kamera No.23 (1959). It was not until seven months later, however, in issue No.30 (1960) that the first films were advertised for sale. They were silent and black and white and available in 8mm or 16mm. The 16mm Continue Reading
Doing Rude Things – invite
This is my second book-related post this week! For those of you with long memories, you may remember that way back in 1992 Pamela Green wrote the foreword to David McGillivray’s book Doing Rude Things: The History of the British Sex Film, 1957-81. It was the first serious study of Continue Reading

In 1973 he became a comic book cover artist for the Italian publisher Edifumetto, working on such titles as titles Playcolt, La Poliziotta and Vampirissimo Continue Reading
Sussex Maidens by Roy Wyatt
Sussex Maidens by Roy Wyatt, with a supplement of photographs of the nude by Stephen Glass, was first published in September 1949 by The Naturist. Sorting through some pictures I came across the negative of the cover image. The book is a rather amusing read with such chapters as Tall Continue Reading
Meow!
From an original negative in my collection comes this delightful picture of Pamela Green taken by Stephen Glass in the early 1950s. Pamela modelled for him at least twice: at the nudist camp, Spielplatz, in Bricket Wood, and at his tiny first-floor studio in Old Church Street, just off the Continue Reading
The Peeping Tom Eye by John Bignell
This picture from 1958 was entitled “Probably the most widely seen eye in the world.” The eye belonged to the Mayor of Chelsea’s mace bearer and featured in posters and publicity for Michael Powell’s ill-fated film Peeping Tom, which more or less ended the director’s UK career. The photo is Continue Reading
How to Take Glamour Studies
I’ve been meaning to do this for ages, and I finally got around to doing it. I’ve collected together a series of articles, that George Harrison Marks wrote in the 1950s on how to take glamour studies. You can download a free copy of the 67-page booklet when you subscribe to Continue Reading
