Miss Venus 1950

In the summer of 1950 with the years of wartime austerity behind, Speilplatz held it’s first Miss Venus contest. It was held on the August bank holiday weekend. Pamela Green was visiting the Club at the time and was persuaded to enter. Each contender had to stand on a platform and do about eight themed poses. Among Pamela’s poses was Beauty with a mirror and a comb and Dianna of the Hunt as she had a bow and arrow. To her delight, she won. The photographer Stephen Glass, who was there photographing the naturists for Health and Efficiency, paid Pamela for an impromptu sitting. As Pamela was going to Holland the week after the extra cash came in handy. It was the first of many such events and was so popular that the ladies were soon joined by an Adonis competition.
