I’ve always been a big fan of the Kibbo Kif. So when Annebella Pollen, author of The Kindred of the Kibbo Kift, got in touch with me about a new book she was working on called: Nudism in a Cold Climate: The Visual Culture of Naturists in Mid-20th Century Britain, you can bet I was excited.
After several months and plenty of hard work by Annebella, the book is about to be released by Atelier Éditions. And it’s exceeded my expectations.
Richly illustrated, it examines the idiosyncratic phenomenon of social nudism, or naturism, in 20th-century Britain, a place known for its lack of sunshine and conservative attitudes to sex. It’s a fascinating glimpse behind British veils of propriety and a unique view inside an enduring experimental culture that sought to radically challenge, liberate and ultimately transform conventional attitudes to nakedness.
The book is profusely illustrated and comes with an engaging narrative full of wit and insight. Pamela Green is naturally featured. Photographers such as Horace Roye, John Everard, Jean Straker, Harrison Marks and Yvonne Gregory, who will be familiar to readers of this blog, are all covered.
I can’t recommend it more highly. It is an edition of 3,000 copies, and I’m pretty sure it will sell out quickly. I suggest you get yourself a copy now rather than later. Annebella’s Kibbo Kift book goes for ridiculous sums.
You can order online from such retailers as Bookshop UK and Amazon or directly from the publisher.
THANKS FOR KEEPING PAMELA’S REPUTATION ALIVE, YAK. AS I HAVE SAID ON THESE PAGES BEFORE, SHE IS ” FOREVER THE MOST BEAUTIFUL WOMAN IN THE WORLD “
Thanks, John. Much appreciated.
