Don’t mess with these ladies!

Rummaging through my collection of Stephen Glass images I came across some pictures of wrestling women. They were unique enough to warrant more than posting a couple of images online. So I duly gathered the best of them together in a hardback volume called Amazons of Yesteryear, that can be brought online.

I do not know if the images have been published before. The models seem to be amateurs and not professionals, but they do seem to be enjoying themselves. They were probably taken in Stephen Glass’s flat at 60 Old Church Street, less than a ten-minute walk from his brother’s studio on the Kings Road. Occasionally Stephen would write on the back of the contact sheet or the negative bag, but all I can make out is the date 1947 and the names Margaret and Doris. I’m sure this collection of rarely seen photos of bare-breasted wrestling women will arouse your passion for female combat and nostalgia.

And talking of wrestling, I do recommend the Netflicks TV drama GLOW (Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling). Looking forward to season 2.
